Confidence vs Courage to Create Something from Nothing
I never understood the difference between the two words above nor thought of conflating the two. I knew cocky vs confident where one is just thinking you're the best vs knowing and projecting you being the best. But the difference between the two words struck me thinking about how successful individuals carry themselves every day. Mastering these two concepts can create opportunities out of "nothing." Let's look deeper below:
A. Confidence: Knowing you control the room while convincing others you do. I think an underrated skill that I try to work on daily is convincing others you are the smartest person in the room. Think of how much time is required between actually knowing everything vs convincing others you do. Only one of these two things is achievable unless you are Stephen Hawking. Focus your time on the one that you can achieve. Project confidence and it radiates to everyone.
B. Courage: Knowing you have to control the room, may fail, but have to do it anyway. Understanding the risk vs reward payoff yet still proceeding on. Not all courage is equal as well. Running into a burning building requires a level of courage much higher than asking your boss a difficult question and that is ok as its not a comparison. It is easier to have courage the more you embrace the situation.
These two skills when combined allow us to prosper. Often, the phrase "creating something out of nothing" is said but not understood since is impossible to do this unless you are God himself. The difference is most individuals do not see the "something" (however small it is) that allows for opportunities. This is where the confidence aspect comes in or the ability to control and convince yourself and others that there is something there. Then comes the courage part, the risk vs return analysis. Is it worth it to pursue? Maybe or maybe not.
The more these skills are refined the easier it is to have success in the long run. Most just assume all successful people are born with it. This is far from the truth. These need to be worked on daily like every other skill set you possess. The sooner you recognize this, the easier it is to create your something from nothing.
