Backlash is an Understatement

Multiple topics to discuss so here we go:

Politics

Yesterday was supposed to be a bellwether for the future midterms in 2022 and for the 2024 Presidential race. If you are a Republican, you want those held today. To put it mildly, this was a bloodbath of historic proportions. Forget any 2010 Tea Party waves or the 2018 Democrat Suburban Midterm backlash against Trump, this was an onslaught. Conventional wisdom has always held that in high turnout races, Democrats win. Considering Republican wave years in 2010, 2014, and 2016 were on the lower end and 2008 and 2018 were historic turnout, many considered yesterday to be the same. They were dead wrong.

The big prize is the VA Governor race. In a historic (3.3+ million vote!) turnout, Republicans won the VA House and Governorship shift with a 12 pt. shift to the right. In New Jersey, Republicans have flipped a bunch of State House seats, AG races, and (probably) lost the Governorship by just 1 pt., a 15 pt. swing to the right (again high turnout). In Texas, they flipped a Biden +14 pt. seat in the Texas State House. In Pennsylvania, they won EVERY state judicial seat that was in contention. And in Ohio, they won the special election US House seat by the same margin Trump won it by in 2020. Dominance.

How did they do it? Riled up rural voters, competitive again in the suburban seats, and continuing to make massive inroads with Hispanic voters. This is the future of the party, a diverse coalition of working class, suburban moms, and Hispanic voters who share the GOP values of family, faith, and security. This party is strong, and their message for 2022 is simple: don't defund the police, you control your child's education, lower the taxes, and save America's traditional values that make it so great. In a country full of immigrants willing to give up everything to come here, fundamentally changing the country isn't a winning message. Democrats have some soul searching to do because a 10+ pt. shift to the right means a ruby red country very, very soon.

Sports

Congratulations to the Atlanta Braves. An 88-win team that was under .500 at the break just won the World Series handily. What a run and exciting World Series overall for two teams that aren't the Cubs, Dodgers, Yankees, or Red Sox. Baseball has a bright future if they would get out of their own way. Broadcast games on everyday channels, increase streaming, engage on social media, and stay out of politics. The game is growing everyday.

We Are the Product

There were two interesting topics I wanted to talk about but one will wait for Monday. I settled for us being the product in a new AI world. This concept has been a sci-fi thriller for decades but always seen as "in the distant future with flying cars and alien travel." That reality is now here, or scratching the surface of it. And it has been here for a decade, if you realized it or not. The mid to late 2000's saw two products change the way we interacted with the world: social media and the touchscreen smartphone. Both of these concepts used us, the user, as the product. Social media had no product except the user posting information to other users. The touchscreen allowed us to use our fingers to control the product with apps tailored for us with information about us (photos, contacts, texts). There's a Crash Coming...

The market dropped yesterday and that trend will not change. Stocks and Cryptos are both down due to one decision: the Fed raising rates. Why? Well, when the Government spends trillions without adjusting for debt you get rampant inflation. Combine this with the Fed injecting trillions through quantitative easing and you get the worst inflation in 50 years. By raising the rate and buying back some of their debt they injected, inflation will crash. The issue is so will 401k's and investments. If they do not raise rates, inflation continues to increase but your 401k is saved. What is more frustrating is this was predicted to happen by anyone who has take a high school economics class. Our economy is hanging on by a thread for some and others are ready to scoop it all up. Just make sure you're buying.
