Let's Write Again
Few month break. Working on languages, career, and personal growth. Nothing crazy but worth notating.
Topic that I thought of and think is difficult to conceptualize: creating a product that genuinely benefits society (or at least 99%) without coming off as a "grift" or "scam". Let me give 2 examples: iPhone vs Financial Literacy Course from Instagram.
The goal isn't to create something that is deemed a scam but rather something that creates value without necessarily at the expense of others.
The iPhone allows me to open up a different world alongside the entire planet Earth. A world online that has become a reality to meet people, learn, work, etc. both in-person and virtually.
The literary course comes off as a scam, a rip-off, a grift, something that is a "quick buck." It teaches you something that can be done with 5 minutes of Google.
Is one inherently better? That is up to the consumer. But trying to come up with a list of products that provide mainly benefits is hard. Even iPhones create dependency, e-waste, pollution, addiction, etc. But the pro's mask the negatives completely where as the literacy course's negatives outweigh the pros.
In positive news, I have the ability to speak 3 languages with a fourth on the way thanks to the iPhone. I can connect to my family in other parts of the world, see friends everyday, call taxi's on demand, watch any sporting event, and read news as it happens, track my diet and calories with ease, and measure my running and overall health with a few clicks.
Writing is back officially as well. 21st century problems are real and solutions are needed from the generation creating and solving them. The opportunities are endless.
