Why Do We Accept Mediocre Results?
If you pay taxes of any kind throughout the year (impossible to avoid as a US citizen) then why do we not hold our government accountable at all?
This has been the perfect week for me to write about this, from the debt ceiling debacle to my personal experiences, once again government has done a garbage job.
If you asked 100 people what they think of the DMV, does 1 or 2 people say "positive"? I doubt it. This is telling since every single government agency operates in the same way.
I had to finalize my citizenship docs (and officially am awaiting my court date) but that required my last apostille from the SoS in Chicago. Let's just say it took 5 trips, 3 of them being wrong instructions, 1 being refusal to accept since the worker had a personal vendetta against me at that point, and the fifth being successful. Each time you leave, you wonder "Why isn't the government better?"
Why do we hold a company like JPMorgan or Apple to give us 100% greatness each time, yet we are searching for ONE instance the government is successful? We pay the government way more too. Doesn't make sense, and oh, their jobs are virtually safe for life with good benefits and pay relative to other entry level jobs. A joke by every definition of the word.
How much better would life be if going to the DMV was equal to a Chic-Fil-A drive through? How about filing taxes, or getting documents certified? We wouldn't even know what to do given we are programmed to accept garbage results from those people who take our money.
Will this ever change? No, probably not but one can dream.
